King's School
In 2023 we began the resin bound surfacing works at the former King’s School site in Macclesfield, completing the final phase of the project in 2026. The historic 5.3-acre site on Cumberland Road is being transformed into a new community, with the original school buildings being sympathetically converted alongside new homes, apartments and landscaped areas.
Appointed by P J Livesey, we installed over 2,000m of resin bound surfacing across pathways and roads throughout the development. Silver was selected for the pathways, providing a clean and contemporary finish, while Barley Beach was used across the roads to create a natural appearance that complements the surrounding development and landscaping.
The resin bound surfacing provides a seamless, hard-wearing and low-maintenance surface, creating durable routes for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles throughout the site. The extensive network of pathways and roads forms an important part of the development, connecting the different areas of the scheme while complementing the historic setting.
Works were carried out across multiple phases from 2023 through to 2026, with the final phase of resin bound surfacing completed in 2026. Working across an active development over several years required careful coordination of the installation programme alongside the wider construction works.
King’s School has a significant place in the history of Macclesfield, with the school tracing its roots back to 1502. The development retains and restores many of the site’s historic features, including the original school buildings, headmaster’s house, wrought iron gates, Grade II listed lodge house and Memorial Cricket Pavilion. The original cricket pitch is also being retained as a central green space within the development.
The completed resin bound surfacing forms an important part of the finished development, providing attractive and practical routes through the new community while complementing the historic buildings and landscaped surroundings.
